Tuition Refund Plan
Fixed costs such as salaries and overhead don't change if a student leaves school partway through the year, so the Sunstone tuition contract obligates a family to the entire year's tuition, even in the case of withdrawal or dismissal. Sunstone, like many private schools, shares the risk of default with families by contracting with an insurance company offering a Tuition Refund Plan.
The Plan works like this: Families who choose the monthly payment plan are required to buy tuition insurance at a cost of a small percentage of the total tuition. In the event of withdrawal or dismissal from school, the insurance pays a percentage of the remaining unpaid tuition to the school, and any remaining balance is paid by the family or refunded, as the case may be. This reduces or eliminates the amount a family is liable for and allows Sunstone to concentrate on its mission of offering excellent AMI Montessori education.
Families who choose the single payment plan are not required to participate in the plan, since they do not pose a financial risk to the school. However, they are eligible to participate to insure against their own risk if they choose.
