Sunstone Board of Trustees
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational institution, Sunstone is governed by a Board of Trustees. The board consists of some current and former school parents as well as non-parents, and includes Montessori professionals, other educators, and members with legal, non-profit, and business experience. They are united in their mission to ensure that Sunstone Montessori School continues to thrive and flourish.
David Smith, Board President
David served on the Two Rivers Montessori School board for 3 years. A software engineer, David can quickly suss out a problem and what it hinges upon, and then make strong recommendations to the board. His two children Ira & Gertie are in the Children's House.
Josh Shulman
A current parent and a lawyer, Josh often identifies discrepancies that the rest of the board is not seeing. His respect for our community members is palpable and is deeply valued by the board. Josh has a son Elijah in the elementary.
Jerry Elliott
A pragmatic lawyer, Jerry cuts to the bone on a lot of issues before the board. His dedication to the health of the school - in all its aspects - is surpassed only by the level of energy he commits to the work. Jerry has two children enrolled in the school: John in Upper Elementary, and Amy in the Children's House. His eldest son, Michael, graduated from the school in 2008, after six years in the program. Jerry's wife, Kathleen, assists in the classroom, teaching advanced math in the Upper Elementary.
Chris Pellissier
A CPA, Chris is an essential member of the financial team. Like others on the board, she is committed to finding practical solutions to emergent problems. Her son Austin is in the elementary.
Jordia Blumenstein
Jordia Blumenstein is an English teacher and service learning coordinator at Pacific Crest Community School, a private seventh-through-twelfth grade school in northeast Portland. She brings her teacher's eye and her penchant for active community collaboration to the Board.
