Sunstone Montessori Parent Education with Sarah Andrews: "Punish by Rewards"'

Sarah Andrews reveals how we are actually punishing our children when we extrinsically motivate them with incentives, enticing goodies, verbal praise and other such rewards. Research has shown that rewards may produce desired results in the short term, but are ineffective in the long haul and in fact do lasting harm.

Punished by Rewards? A Conversation with Alfie Kohn Alfie Kohn is author of "Punished by Rewards; The Trouble with Gold Stars, Incentive Plans, A’s, Praise, and Other Bribes"

Sarah Andrews is an AMI Primary Trainer and Oregon Registry Master Trainer, holds a M.Ed. in Education, a B.A. in Music Performance, and both Primary and Elementary-level AMI Montessori diplomas. Sarah currently contributes at Montessori Institute Northwest in classroom lectures, presentations, guiding practice sessions, as well as parent education, teacher development, and community education.
